FAQ
How to Remove the Magnet From a Speaker?
If you have an old speaker laying around it will contain several magnets that you can re-purpose for other projects. The larger and more powerful the speaker the more powerful magnets it contains, and it will take increased effort to remove them. Removal is simple but does require some tools---and can be dangerous, due to heating up the magnets in the process.
How To Wire a Speaker As a Microphone?
Speakers and microphones are based on the same electrical principles. In a speaker, voltage passing through a metal coil called an inductor creates a magnetic field, which vibrates the cone. A microphone is just the reverse: sound waves in the air vibrate a cone attached to a magnet, and the magnetic field creates voltage in an inductor. Larger cones resonate at lower frequencies, so a microphone made from a large speaker cone will have good bass response and not much on the high end. Different sized cones will produce different results.
