What is a auger conveyor?

A drive motor turns the screw (also known as the auger), moving product up one pitch every revolution. A tube or U shaped trough around the auger acts as the conveying surface, where powdered, granular, and even non-flowing material is pushed along the trough surface. Material is fed through the screw conveyor’s inlet, passes through the conveyor via the turning auger, and is taken out via the discharge end.

Types of auger conveyors:

1. According to trough shape, there are two types:

• Tubular auger conveyor  (Steel pipes are used as trough)
• U trough auger conveyor  (Steel plate is bent into a U-shape and used as trough)

2. According to inclination angles, there are three types:

• Horizontal auger conveyor
• Inclined auger conveyor (0-45 degrees)
• Vertical auger conveyor (above 45 degrees)

3. According to whether or not have internal bearings, there are two types:

• Shafted auger conveyor   (for handling dry powders and granules)
• Shaftless auger conveyor  (Internal bearings are eliminated, Ideal for handling sticky and sluggish bulk materials)

4. Material of Construction

• Mild steel
• Stainless steel
• Abrasion resistant steel
