glauconite / greensand for water filter

Glauconite filter media is the typical hypergene  mineral  and  is rich in potassiumiron silicate mineral. it is produced in the  sediments of shallow sea  ( such as sandstone, carbonate rock etc.) 

The composition of Glauconite is K1-X (Al, Fe) 2 [Al1-XSi3+XO10] (OH) 2,Cystalline is the monoclinic system laminated structure silicate minerals.Its chemical composition is similar to mica,  but to compare with Mica, the Al/Si value of glauconite is smaller, the K value is less, the Na replacement value can up to 0.5%.The K ion contents and Fe ion contents in glauconite is not same too according to the geological age and rock lithology. Usually the K2O contents of glauconite which produced in early paleozoic er is higher, and  the Fe contents of glauconite which produced in deposit of modern oceans is higher.

The fresh Glauconite is green color, dark green color, opacity. It shows as blade shape to round granular or irregular worm shape, board shape etc.The hardness is 2~3 Moh's, crisp characteristic,  bulk density is 2.2~2.8g/cm3.

Glauconite is used for water treatment and soil improvement.It absorb the Ca and Mg Ion in water and release the Na Ions in water treatment.It removes the water soluble iron salt and manganese.It also can used as polishing agent for paint, glass etc.

Glauconite is formed in the reduction of the state of the shallow sea environment and slow deposition, It is produced from the 10~250 meters depth variable temperature sea zoon.It is called  Depth Indicator or Indicator of Slow Sedimentation.
