Aneroid barometer is a kind of barometer, the most common one is metal box barometer. When the temperature is high in sunny days, the movement of gas molecules is higher than that in cloudy days. The aneroid barometer, also known as an empty box barometer, can be used as a teaching instrument, so it is installed on the bakelite base with glass cover. When the atmospheric pressure on the corrugated flat box is balanced with the tensile force of the elastic steel plate on the box, the pointer is in a stable state, and the number of the pointer on the dial is the local atmospheric pressure value at that time. When the atmospheric pressure changes, the pressure on the flat box also changes, and the corrugated convex and concave of the wavy flat basin changes accordingly, so that the bending degree of the elastic steel sheet also changes. This change is transmitted to the pointer through the pull rod, lever, wire, fan-shaped gear and cylindrical gear, so that the pointer deflects. When the atmospheric pressure increases, the pointer deflects clockwise; when the atmospheric pressure decreases, the pointer deflects anticlockwise.

Application of aneroid barometer

1. When the gas in the glass cover is pumped out with an air extractor, the air pressure in the cover decreases and the reading on the dial decreases. If there is no air extractor, air can be sucked in by mouth, but it is not allowed to blow in water vapor when blowing, so as to corrode the machine parts.

2. Using a pump or balloon to pump air through the air hole, the gas pressure in the hood increases and the indicator number on the dial increases.

3. Loosen the joint of the air vent under the base, and use a screwdriver to turn the screw in the hole to make the pointer rotate, so as to correct the pointer position. When the screw is tightened, the pointer deflects clockwise, and when the screw is loosened, the pointer deflects anticlockwise.

4. This kind of barometer has no temperature compensation device. When the temperature changes, the measured atmospheric pressure has a large error. For this reason, the error can be corrected with the mercury barometer first, and then the measured value can be properly corrected before the atmospheric pressure can be measured.
