The main component is limonene. Turpentine oil can be mixed with chloroform, ether or acetic acid in any ratio, but it is insoluble in water. Turpentine oil is a high flash point flammable liquid that is volatile and generates a lot of smoke when it is burned. Newly-manufactured turpentine is a colorless, odor-free liquid. Storage time is too long or exposure to the air will cause the color to gradually turn yellow and odor increased.
