Tsugaru Vidro "Owl"
Owl is one of the birds that are popular in many countries.
"It is called "Fukuro" in Japan.
The word "fukuro" has the same pronunciation as "fu-kuro".
"fu-kuro" is a compound meaning "free from troubles or sufferings". ("fu" means free while "kuro" means troubles or sufferings.)
An ornament of an owl is thought to bring happiness and good luck, and is very popular in Japan.

Tsugaru Vidro are glass crafts which are produced in the Aomori region, on the northern tip of Japan’s main island.
The main raw material for the glass is silica sand.
More than 100 kinds of glass which are different in color are created by adding other raw materials such as metals or minerals to the silica sand.
A mixture of the raw materials is dissolved in a furnace at a high temperature of about 1500 degrees centigrade.
A melted portion of glass rolled up around one end of a blowpipe is finished in a soft shape unique to hand making by the skillful techniques of the craftsmen in Tsugaru.
By combining various colors being particular about the colors which reflect the Japanese seasons, the craftsmen depict the beautiful Japanese seasons in their works.
