・Barley grass is the young leaf of the barley plant (Hordeum vulgare).
The barley grass is harvested from the fresh young leaves that have grown to 20-30 cm before the ears of barley formed.
It is native to Central Asia and is one of the oldest crops cultivated in the world.
When the barley is being raised, a process called wheat treading is undertaken.
Wheat treading is the act performed at the time when the seedlings sprout, that tread barley sprouts from above.
It is said that when the wheat has been trodden, the stems and leaves are broken off and the water is released from inside. As a result, the concentration of ingredients inside the wheat has been increased and making it more resistant to cold weather.
The broken wounds also produce plant hormones, which can thicken the stems and increase the number of roots used to absorb water and accelerate the process of increasing one stem into to several stems.
The wheat treading is acted several times at intervals of about ten days or more.
Thus, barley is believed to become a vigorous plant that grows stronger and stronger with each treading that was taken in its
growing process!
