Aluminum fluoride is available as white powder or crystal with density of 3.00g/cm³, melting point is 1040°C, boiling point is 1272°C.

It is slightly soluble in water, hardly soluble in acid and alkali solution, insoluble in most organic solvents, also insoluble in hydrofluoric acid and liquefied hydrogen fluoride.

It doesn’t react with liquid ammonia or concentrated sulfuric acid by heating to fuming and doesn’t changeable when co-melted with potassium hydroxide.

It is not reduced by hydrogen and doesn’t decompose through heating but it may sublime.

It can be hydrolyzed partly to hydrogen fluoride and aluminum oxide in the vapour of 300-400°C.
