What is EDM?
The basic EDM process is really quite simple. An electrical spark is created between an electrode and a workpiece. The spark is visible evidence of the flow of electricity. This electric spark produces intense heat with temperatures reaching 8000 to 12000 degrees Celsius, melting almost anything. The spark is very carefully controlled and localized so that it only affects the surface of the material. The EDM process usually does not affect the heat treat below the surface. With wire EDM the spark always takes place in the dielectric of deionized water. The conductivity of the water is carefully controlled making an excellent environment for the EDM process. The water acts as a coolant and flushes away the eroded metal particles.
What can our portable EDM do?
Our portable EDM can fast remove broken taps, drills, screws,bolts,studs,etc from the workpieces. It uses the EDM(spark erosion) principle to burn the central parts of the broken taps into debris, then remove the debris with a chisel,tweezer or magnet. Sometimes the diameter of the screw or tap is too big or its strength is over 8.8, general processing method is unsuitable. We can process a groove or hexagon of 2-3mm depth with a sheet or hexagonal electrode, then unscrew it with a driver or spanner. Widely used by machine shops, heavy equipment repair, aircraft, auto/truck repair and R&D shops,nuclear or wind power industry,etc.

1.How big size can your machine remove?
-Usually,our SFX-4000B can remove M2 to M36 taps,screws,studs,drills,drifts,etc.
-So far the largest size is M48 we've removed with sheet electrode.
2. How long will it take to remove one tap?
-It depends on the size of the broken taps;The processing speed is 1~2mm/min normally.
10~20 minutes to solve your broken taps headache.
3.Can I use it to process blind hole or via?
-Yes, the processing depth can be set(stop at a specific depth) and the working head can auto retract and alarm when bottoming.
4. Can I use it for wire-electrode cutting or drilling?
-Yes, but please note it is not high precision equipment which has a +0.3mm tolerance.
