Description
V-MARINE™ Reflective Material SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Grade Reflective Tape Sew-On Type I #SS-BD6750 is intended for reflectorizing SOLAS life support equipment such as life vests, jackets, and rafts.
SS-BD6750 is a silver, flexible reflective material with sewable polyester film backing. This reflective material utilize the principle of retroreflection and are comprised of n encapsulated lens optical design that provides high reflectivity over wide range of entrance angles, whether dry or wet. It helps to enhance visibility of life-saving equipment in nighttime, or low-light conditions by reflecting a bright white lights when illuminated a light source.

Retroreflective Performance
The coefficient of Retroreflection (RA, in cd/lux/m²) is measured by methods traceable to either of the following retroreflective intensity testing procedures:
ASTM E809 and E810 (RA)
CIE 54.2:2001 (R’)
The following table contains the minimum RAvalues as measured at the listed specific entrances and observations angles. Based on tests performed by V-CAN in accordance with IMO procedures and verified by an outside third party, V-MARINE™ Reflective Material SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Grade Reflective Products meet or exceed these values.
Coefficient of Retro Reflection in cd/lux/m2
Entrance Angle | Observation Angle
| 0.1 o | 0.2 o | 0.5 o | 1.0 o | 2.0 o |
5o | 180 | 175 | 72 | 14 | 2.5 |
30 o | 140 | 135 | 70 | 12 | 2.0 |
45 o | 85 | 85 | 48 | 9.4 | 1.0 |

Seawater Immersion
No Evidence of blistering, delamination, subsurface corrosion or “whitening”
Retro Reflective intensity conform to the minimum coefficient of retro reflection required by IMO A.658 (16).
Flexibility
4 hours@-30°C, no cracking when bent around a 3.2 mm mandrel.
Tensile Strength
Tensile Strength N per 25mm Width
Material without support ≥16 N
Material with support ≥ 330N longitudinal
For mechanical fastening ≥200N transverse
Blocking
8 Hours in oven at 65owith 18 kg weight on top, no blocking.
Salt Spray Resistance
After exposure to saline mist for 120 hours, retro reflective intensity conform to the minimum coefficient of retro reflection required by IMO A.658 (16).
Temperature Resistance
After exposure in a dry atmosphere for 24 hours to a temperature of 65 +/-2oC and subsequent exposure for 24 hours to a temperature of -30 +/- 2oC, show no evidence of corrosion that would impair effectiveness or reduce the coefficient of retro reflection below the minimum coefficient of retro reflection required by IMO A.658 (16).
Fungus Resistance
After exposure to mildew for a period of 2 weeks, shows no loss of coefficient of retro reflection below the minimum values required by IMO A.658 (16).
Abrasion Resistance
After 1000 brush strokes described as IMO A.658 (16), retro reflective intensity meet or exceed the minimum coefficient of retro reflection required by standards.
Soil Resistance and Cleanability
Soiling for 24 hours described as IMO A.658 (16), no any significant visible damage or permanent soiling.
Application Instructions
Whenever two or more pieces of V-MARINETM Reflective Material are used together on a single surface or as a set, they should be matched to ensure uniform color and reflectivity.
NOTE: Because V-MARINE™ Reflective Material SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Grade Reflective Products do not readily stretch, attaching them to highly elastic materials could adversely affect performance and result in rips or tears. Therefore, V-CAN recommends not attaching these products to highly elastic materials.
Cutting
Hand cut, die-cut, or guillotine reflective material to desired size. Use sharp dies or blades made of steel or magnesium. To ensure smooth edges, limit the layers of SOLAS while cutting.
Sewing
When sewing to a suitable fabric, use thread comparable to #69 nylon (Quality Thread & Notions 1-800-521-4308) or an equivalent UL acceptable thread and sew to a 301 or 3/16" (4.75 mm) lockstitch using 5 to 12 stitches per inch. We do recommend that you test the sewn final product to ensure the results are acceptable for your application. Stitches averaging 7 to 9 stitches per inch would give better tear-strength results.
Screen Printing
Inks may be used for printing on the surface of V-MARINE™ Reflective Material SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Grade Reflective Products. All inks should be continuously tested to ensure acceptable adhesion in the event of changes occurring in the manufacturing process or composition of the ink. Prior to printing, wiping the surface with a soft cloth lightly dampened with alcohol may help ink adhesion.
Care and Maintenance Instructions
Wash by hand with a sponge or soft cloth using warm water and detergent. Rinse thoroughly. Remove oil and tar with a mild solvent, followed by warm water and detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
Important Note
Test each application according to appropriate care instructions required for the finished product. Actual life of V-MARINE™ Reflective Material SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Grade Reflective Products depends on cleaning methods and wear conditions.
Wash: Do not machine wash
Bleach: Do not bleach
Dry: Do not tumble dry
Iron: Do not iron
Dry-clean: Do not dry-clean
Storage and Shelf Life
Store in a cool, dry area and use within one year after date of receipt. Store rolls or panels in original shipping cartons. Return partially used rolls to the carton or suspend horizontally through the core.
Performance
While the use of V-MARIN™ SOLAS reflective tape enhances visibility, no reflective material can guarantee absolute visibility, particularly in adverse weather conditions. Performance will vary depending upon actual use, exposure conditions and maintenance. Users should test V-MARIN™ SOLAS reflective tape to satisfy conformance to their own requirements.
Reduction in durability will occur when the usage requirements are particularly severe, such as: work life jackets and rubber rafts that are used to maintain harbor facilities, coastal waterways and industrial equipment in the water or on decks; life-saving appliances with continuous outdoor exposure; heavy wear and tear; and chemical exposure and washing.
