The Sand Content Kit is a simple, accurate and inexpensive sieve analysis apparatus for determining the sand content of drilling muds.
The kit consists of a special 200-mesh sieve 2,5” in diameter, fastened inside a collar upon which a small funnel is fitted on either end. This is used with a 100ml glass measuring tube, graduated to read from 0 to 20% the percentage sand by volume. The collar and funnel are made of polyethylene and the screen is made of stainless steel. A 500 ml wash bottle and carrying case are included.
Sand content of drilling fluid refers to the proportion of sand whose diameter is greater than 0.074mm to the volume of drilling fluid which can not pass through 200 mesh sun screen. If the sand content of drilling fluid is too high, the drilling fluid density will be too high, the ROP will be reduced, the filtration rate will be increased, the borehole wall will be unstable, the drill pipe will be stuck, and the wear degree of drilling tool will be increased. Therefore, it is very important to determine the sand content of drilling fluid.
