Sorbitan tristearate, also known as STS is synthesized by the esterification of sorbitan with stearic acid. It has a molecular formula of C60H112O8. At room temperature, it is in the form of a white to yellow granular solid. It has an HLB value of 2.1, which is fairly lipophilic. As a food additive, it can reduce the turbidity of vegetable oil containing high saturated fatty acids. It can also improve the fat crystal structure and stability in chocolate and margarine. In addition, it acts as an emulsifier in cosmetic industry and as lubricant in textile industry.

Span/sorbitan esters
Sorbitan esters are non-ionic lipophilic surfactants that are commonly used as water-in-oil (W/O) emulsifiers and stabilizers. They are produced by esterification of dehydrated sorbitol (sorbitan) with a variety of fatty acids. Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol that can be obtained by the reduction of glucose or derived from corn, potatoes etc. The fatty acids commonly use to synthesize sorbitan esters include, lauric acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid and oleic acid.
As sorbitan esters have numerous functions, our range of surfactants are used in a variety of settings, for example, as an emulsifier in food, a stabilizer in cosmetic cream formulation, or a cosolvent and antirust agent for petroleum and oil. These surfactants are sourced from vegetables and vegan friendly. They are safe and nontoxic as food additives when used according to regulations.
Our range of sorbitan esters have a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) between 1.6 - 8.6, which make them dissolvable in polar organic solvents and oils. When used in combination with varying proportions of ethoxylated sorbitan esters (polysorbate) that have an HLB range between 10.0 – 16.7, it creates more versatile surfactants; which can produce W/O or oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions with varying levels of consistencies, expanding the possible applications of these surfactants.

Polyoxyethylene sorbitan esters also known as polysorbates, are ethoxylated sorbitan esters. They are non-ionic hydrophilic surfactants that are commonly used as oil-in-water (O/W) emulsifier.
Our wide product range of polysorbates can be utilized for numerous applications, including, but not limited to, acting as emulsifiers, stabilizers and foaming agents in bread improver and cake oil; stabilize special emulsification in cosmetics; for polysorbate with high HLB values, they can be used as solutizers for essence; and for the ones with low HLB values, they act as emulsifiers for mineral oils. Polysorbates are considered to be non-toxic and safe food additives when used appropriately. Our polysorbates are sourced from vegetable/vegan ingredients.
Concocted surfactant mixtures can be made by combining different portions of polysorbate and sorbitan esters, which can be tailored for specific product formulations.
