What is a grease trap? The grease trap is a special equipment made of polypropylene, which is designed to separate fats and eliminate them from wastewater.
A grease trap is a sealed plastic container, inside of which separation plates are installed. To prevent unpleasant odors from coming out, as well as for ease of maintenance, the grease trap is closed with a lid with clamps and a rubber seal. Technology
A grease trap is a sealed plastic container, inside of which separation plates are installed. To prevent unpleasant odors from coming out, as well as for ease of maintenance, the grease trap is closed with a lid with clamps and a rubber seal.
The scheme of the grease trap for the sink

The waste water enters the separation chamber of the grease trap through the inlet pipe. There, solid particles are deposited and non-emulsified fats and oils are enlarged.
In the settling chamber, due to the difference in specific gravity, the final separation of fat particles from water occurs. The purified water enters the general sewer network through a distribution pocket that prevents fat from entering the sewer system. So, fat mass accumulates in the fat catcher, which should be periodically removed.
Installation of a grease trap under the sink
Installation of the grease trap is recommended to be carried out by a qualified specialist.
The grease trap is installed on the floor under the washing bath or near it, in a convenient place for maintenance.
Recommended procedure for installing a grease trap:
5. Open the faucet in the washing bath and fill the grease trap with water.
1. Install the grease trap on the site planned for installation.
2. Disconnect the sewer at the place where the grease trap will be connected.
3. Connect the corrugation of the washing bath with the inlet pipe of the grease trap.
4. Connect the discharge pipe of the grease trap and the drain point to the sewer with a sewer pipe.
6. Check the connection points of the grease trap for the absence of leaks.
Maintenance and operation
Maintenance of the equipment consists in the mechanical removal of fat and mechanical impurities from the grease trap.
Maintenance is performed in the following sequence:
1. Open the lid of the grease trap.
2. Remove fat from the surface and walls of the separation and settling chambers.
3. Clean the bottom of the chambers from silt, if necessary, clean the inlet and outlet pipes.
4. Close the lid of the grease trap.
The frequency of maintenance is set by the operating organization independently, depending on the degree of contamination of the source wastewater and the operating mode of the kitchen, but at least once a week. It is recommended to clean the grease trap before starting the kitchen, because in this case, the frozen fat will be easier to remove from the surface of the chambers.
For more efficient operation of the grease trap and reducing the amount of accumulated pollutants and odor, it is recommended to use biological products that help decompose complex organic pollutants into simple and safe substances.
It is forbidden to put any objects, things, etc. on the lid of the grease trap. This leads to deformation of the lid, seal and locking locks.
