The full English name of CBS is combination braking system. CBS is an abbreviation of English words.
Why can the braking distance be shortened? During normal riding or acceleration, the rear wheel carries most of the weight of the vehicle, so the friction obtained is greater than the front wheel. However, when braking, due to inertia, the center of gravity of the vehicle will be transferred to the front wheel. Therefore, when driving a motorcycle, we should first apply part of the braking force to the rear wheel, so that the center of gravity of the vehicle can be quickly transferred to the front wheel, and then according to the selection of the first seven and the last three at medium speed, Apply most of the braking force to the front wheels, which is the correct braking mode.
When CBS is used, part of the braking force will be applied to the rear wheel first (only part of the braking force will be noticed), which will cause the center of gravity of the vehicle to shift to the front wheel and increase the friction. At this time, when the braking force continues to increase, the front wheel will get the ideal deceleration effect. This way is simpler, more efficient and more accurate than the manual distribution of braking force, so the braking distance can be significantly shortened.
Another advantage of CBS: when the car is not equipped with CBS, the rider will unconsciously put two fingers on the front brake rod when driving in the urban area or on the road with large traffic flow, in case of sudden road conditions. In fact, the accelerator handle is only controlled by the index finger and thumb, which is a very awkward posture, especially when riding in the urban area for a long time, the right hand will be very sore. With CBS, you don't need to think about the front brake lever any more. Five fingers in your right hand can comfortably hold the accelerator handle. In case of any situation, just step on the rear brake lever, which can greatly improve driving comfort.
Since 2018, CBS has made a mandatory regulation on the safety configuration of vehicles with displacement equal to or less than 125cc, power less than or equal to 11kw and push weight ratio less than or equal to 0.1kw/kg in the European Union. Any brand of motorcycles must meet this mandatory regulation before they can be sold in the European market.
