A. We use Sv/h for units of dose rate. Radiation measured in normal condition is called environmental radiation and it is about 0.2~0.3μSv/h. SHIELDPAD and smartphone application also use μSv/h unit μSv/h(microsievert per hour) means amount of exposed radiation per hour (Sv= 1000mSv=1000000μSv)
Q. Radiation dose is too high while traveling High radiation dose rate can be expected if there are radioactive substances around or place had nuclear accident before. Also radiation dose rate can increase in high altitude condition. We are protected from radiation from space by Earth’s magnetic field and atmosphere. We can find that radiation dose rate in high altitude is larger than low altitude. Hence, high radiation dose rate in high altitude area could be space radiation.
Q. Can we measure radiation dose rate of food or liquid ?
A. SHIELDPAD can directly measure radiation dose rate of atmosphere but can’t measure rate of food or liquid. Only gamma ray can be measured when food’s surface contamination is high.
Q. Can we carry SHIELDPAD on airplane?
A. SHIELDPAD uses alkaline battery in RADO model and Lithium-ion battery in RADI model(under 100WH). Both batteries are allowed as carry on luggage.
