A thermocouple is a simple, robust and cost-effective temperature sensor used in a wide range of temperature measurement processes. It consists of two dissimilar metal wires, joined at one end. When properly configured, thermocouples can provide measurements over a wide range of temperatures.
* Can be used to measure high temperatures because metals have high melting points
* Respond very quickly to temperature changes because metals have high conductivities
* Sensitive to very small changes in temperature
* Has precision accuracy in temperature measurement
Widely used in science and industry; applications include temperature measurement for kilns, gas turbine exhaust, diesel engines, and other industrial processes.
Used in homes, offices and businesses as the temperature sensors in thermostats, and also as flame sensors in safety devices for gas-powered major appliances.
