The chlorinator electrolysis cell is the one part of the whole system that actually creates chlorine in the pool. Sodium chloride or common salt dissolved into the water passes through the cell. A small amount of electric current is made to flow into a parallel set of titanium plates inside the cell. These plates, covered with a metal called iridium, separate the sodium chloride molecules through electrolysis and produce hypochlorous acid, which is the same thing produced in a non-saltwater pool when chlorine (in the form of tablets, granular, or liquid) is added to water, keeping the pool sanitized. Eventually two things will happen to the plates in the cell. The first is that the iridium coating will wear away over time and cause the cell to fail. The second issue is that these plates will accumulate scale deposits which lessen potential chlorine production.
If maintained and kept free of excess scale, you can expect 5-8 years on average before needing to replace the cell. Here are some tips that will minimize the wear and tear on the cell, and help prolong its life:
§ Keep calcium hardness levels within range (100-200 ppm for vinyl pools and 200-400 ppm for gunite).
High calcium hardness levels will accumulate as scale deposits on the plates of the cell, limiting performance.
§ Keep salt levels consistently in the 2600-3400 ppm range – 3200 ppm is ideal. Low salt levels force the cell to work harder. High levels will shut down chlorine production completely.
§ Clean the cell regularly only as needed. Once a season is recommended.
§ Power down all pool equipment during lightning storms. This will prevent damage to these components from surges in power.
§ Avoid running high chlorine levels. Continuously running higher levels of chlorine than needed taxes the cell and will shorten the overall lifespan of the cell.
§ Shock your pool manually with liquid or granular chlorine rather than using the “super-chlorinate” function of the generator. This function, although effective and easy to use, does increase the current flowing through the cell for sustained periods of time, and stresses the cell slowly shortening its life.
The Cell:
The cell is the part of the system that actually converts salt (NaCl) to chlorine.
Water passes through the cell and over solid titanium plates that are coated with either ruthenium or iridium, which are naturally occurring metals. The control board sends an electrical charge to the cell, and electrolysis occurs, which produces chlorine.
Eventually the metallic coating on the cells erodes, requiring the cell to be replaced.

4. The wooden case is too heavy; can I have other packing method such as carton box to save the freight cost?
Answer: Wooden cases are do heavy, but as per our years of export experience, carton box can make damage for the anode. Though wooden cases are heavy, but it will not damage the anode.
