The guava extract is extracted from the guava fruit.The commercial extract is usually standardized to contain 40.0% ellagic acid. Ellagic acid is an effective anticancer agent, which can block the replication of human papillomavirus DNA, inhibit the G1 phase of chromosomal mitosis, prevent and control P53 anticancer gene from teratogenesis, repair the activity of P53 gene in head and neck cancer cells. It has the same function to breast, pancreas, esophagus, skin, colon and prostate cancer cells. It can enhance the immune function of the human body, and has the effects of reducing blood pressure and calming down. It is used in medicine and cosmetics as antioxidant. It has the functions of preventing cancer and inhibiting viruses.

The main active components of guava extract are tannins and alkaloids. Tannins are retrogallic acid and gallic acid, the most important of which is Ellagic acid (EA) as shown in Figure 2; alkaloids are Pelletierine, Isopelletierine and Pseudopelletierine.

1. Antimicrobial effect: The guava extract has significant bacteriostatic effect on dysentery bacillus, typhoid bacillus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and so on, and has better inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus.

2. Antifungal effect: The guava extract has inhibitory effect on 10 kinds of dermatophyte fungi, such as Trichophyton violaceum, Epiderma rubrum, Microsporum orduans and Nocardia asteroides.

3. antiviral effect: guava extract still has the effect of inhibiting influenza virus (a PR3 strain).

4. Deworming effect: guava extract pomegranate peel alkaloid has a strong killing effect on tapeworm, can act on the muscle of the insect, so that it sinks into continuous contraction. The concentration of pomegranate hydrochloride was 1 to 10000, killing tapeworm after 5~10 minutes.

5. Other effects: guava extract can significantly increase zinc content in prostate tissue, lecithin corpuscle density, reduce the number of white blood cells in prostate tissue homogenate and plasma acid phosphatase activity, and can improve the antioxidant capacity index of plasma. Pomegranate peel extract can significantly increase the non-bacterial prostatitis and bacterial pre-prostatitis in rats. It has inhibitory effect.
