Diethylene glycol (DEG), Colorless, odorless, transparent, hygroscopic viscous liquid. It's spicy and sweet. Its solubility is similar to that of ethylene glycol, but it has strong solubility for hydrocarbons. Diethylene glycol can be miscible with water, ethanol, glycol, acetone, chloroform, furfural, etc. It is immiscible with ether, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, straight chain aliphatic hydrocarbon and aromatic hydrocarbon. Rosin, shellac, cellulose acetate and most oils are insoluble in diethylene glycol, but can dissolve nitrocellulose, alkyd resin, polyester resin, polyurethane and most dyes. Flammable, low toxic. Application：
1. Mainly used as gas dehydrator and aromatic extraction solvent.
It can also be used as solvent of nitrocellulose, resin, oil, printing ink, softener and finishing agent of textiles, and extraction of coumarin and indene from coal tar.
In addition, two glycol is also used as brake oil mixture, celluloid softener, antifreeze and diluent during emulsion polymerization.
It is also used as plasticizer for rubber and resin; Polyester resin;
Fiber glass; Carbamate foam; Production of lubricant viscosity improver and other products.
It is used to synthesize unsaturated polyester resin.
2. Used for synthesis of unsaturated polyester resin, plasticizer, etc.
It is also used as antifreeze, gas dehydrating agent, plasticizer, solvent, aromatic extraction agent, cigarette hygroscopic agent, textile lubricant and finishing agent, anti drying agent for paste and various gums, hygroscopic cosolvent for vat dyes, etc.
It is a common solvent for oil, resin and nitrocellulose.
