RTD usually use a platinum thin film resistance element to sense the temperature. It is more accurate and more linear than thermocouples and generally slower responding. It is usually measure the temperature range of -200~600°C, connected with display instrument, recording meter and computer, etc. to directly measure temperature of liquid, gas, solid surface.
The thermo element of RTD is made by metal wire. If there is temperature gradient in the measured medium, the measured temperature is an average temperature of element in the range of the medium zone.
RTD element is mainly made of Pt or Cu. Filaments are evenly double-wrapped in insulating ceramic skeleton. It is called ceramic element. It has the advantage of fine high-temperature stability. But because of high manual manufacture cost, it always gets weak resistance value.
