The Craftsman’s Touch
Maki-e (sprinkled picture) is a technique in which pictures, motifs or letters are drawn with lacquer, and metal powder, such as of gold or platinum, is “sprinkled” before the lacquer dries to secure the design on the ware surface.

With the hope of transmitting the good old Japanese traditions to posterity, we have been pursuing the way of jewelry expression.
It was at that time that we met a Maki-e artist, Mr. Kogaku, who established a method to secure lacquer on precious metals.
Makie
Especially in Kaga, it is characterized by the 3-dimensional expression called “Takamakie”, which involves highly building up the lacquer, and by the heavy use of “Raden” by which silver-lipped pearl oyster or abalone is cut out into decorative pieces and glued on the lacquered ware.
