Monel is a solid-solution binary alloy. As nickel and copper are mutually soluble in all proportions, it is a single-phase alloy.
Compared to steel, Monel is very difficult to machine as it work-hardens very quickly. It needs to be turned and worked at slow speeds and low feed rates. It is resistant to corrosion and acids, and some alloys can withstand a fire in pure oxygen. Hastelloy is nickel-molybdenum corrosion-resistant superalloy used for a wide range of chemicalprocessing, pollution control and waste treatment applications. These nickel alloys have a low carboncontent that helps maintain the material’s resistance to corrosion in heat-affected zones of welded joints. Inconel is a nickel-chromium alloy that forms a passivating oxide layer when it is heated, making itresistant to extreme heat and corrosion, as well as pressure and oxidation.
Incoloy is an iron / nickel / chromium super alloy appropriate for static applications that require hightensile strength, oxidation and corrosion resistance.
