What is CALCIUM AMMONIUM NITRATE ?
Calcium ammonium nitrate or CAN, also known as nitro-limestone or nitrochalk, is a widely used inorganic fertilizer, accounting for 4% of all nitrogen fertilizer used worldwide
Usage
1. Fertilizer
Used as a solid fertiliser for side dressing for high value horticultural crops such as market gardens and berryfruit crops. As this product is highly soluble, it can also be used for fertigation as a source of calcium and nitrate-nitrogen for high value horticultural crops. The nitrate-nitrogen is immediately available for plant uptake, while the calcium is provided in a readily soluble form.
2. Heat storage
Calcium nitrate together with Potassium and Sodium nitrate is used to absorb and store energy in the Concentrated Solar Power plants. It can be used as a heat transfer fluid instead of the thermal oil.
3. Concrete
Calcium nitrate is used in waste water pre-conditioning for odour emission prevention.
