EN14370 liquid surface tension meter  platinum ring test method:

1. Platinum ring test method; 

2. When using the platinum ring test method, the display value automatically locks the maximum force value of the sample, and then calculates the surface/interface tension value through the attached computing software or selects the data processing software to be automatically calculated by the computer;

3. Platinum ring size: wire radius is 0.185mm, ring radius is 9.55mm, ring circumference is 60mm;

What’s the “Surface tension”?

     It is widely known that the liquid property can be explained by the inter-attractive force among molecules. Such molecular attraction is called as molecular cohesive force or Van Der Waals force. And surface tension, interface tension and other similar phenomena are used to explain the basic physical phenomena of molecular cohesion.
    Concretely, the molecules of the liquid on the surface are under a stress which is different from the body inside. The molecules inside the body are under a symmetrical and balanced stress while the molecules on the surface are attracted by the molecules inside the body without any counterbalance. It means that the molecules on the surface are under a stress which pulls them inward the body. In other words, the force diagram will decrease the surface area to remove the unbalance. In thermodynamics it is defined that: “Surface tension” it the force which can decrease the surface energy in the system to the minimum, i.e. the free energy (J/m2) on a unit area is also the minimum energy required to form or enlarge the interface of the unit area. The value is complying with the surface energy (N/m). Generally, surface tension is used to represent the surface free energy which determines the physiochemical phenomena on the liquid surface. In daily life, a dewdrop on lotus leaf in the morning and the cambered surface of water in a glass, etc are all the representation of surface tension.
