Description
The drum flaker transforms a molten product into a solid. The process that takes place is a solidification and/or crystallisation process. The product begins to solidify the moment it comes into contact with the cold, rotating drum. After one revolution the com-pletely solidified layer is removed from the drum by a knife and typically breaks into easy to handle flakes. 1.1 ProcessThe form and size of the flakes depend on thenature of the product, but also to some extent onthe process conditions.
A heated dip tray under the cooling drum holds the product in its molten state. The cooling drum slowly revolves through the dip tray, and picks up a thin layer of molten product. For viscous products, an applicator rolls assists in applying the product to the cooling drum. The product starts to cool and solidify the moment it comes into contact with the cold drum. On the inside, a coolant such as cooling water is accurately sprayed against the drum’s inner surface. The entirely closed cooling system ensures no cross-contamination between coolant and product can take place.
After almost a complete revolution, a scraper knife removes the completely solidified product layer from the drum. It breaks up into easy manageable flakes or needles. The form and size of the flakes depend on the nature of the product, and to some extent on the process conditions also. Changing the settings of the process such as speed and immersion depth will slightly alter the dimensions of the flakes or needles to get the desired end result.

1. High thermal efficiency. The principle of heat transfer of rotary dryer is heat conduction which heat conducting direction keeps identical with operation cycle. Except cap heat dissipation and radiation loss, all heat energy can be used for evaporating wet materials on the wall of roller. Thermal efficiency could reach 80%-90%.
2. Large operation elasticity and wide application. Various drying factors of the rotary drier can be adjusted, such as density of feeding materials, thickness of materials film, temperature of heating medium, rotating speed of roller etc, which can change drying speed. As these factors have no interrelations with each other, it brings great convenient to dry operation, and makes it applicable to suit various materials and to meet different requirement of production.
3. Short drying period. The drying period of material is normally 10 to 15 seconds, so it is suitable for heat-sensitive material. It can be also working under less pressure condition if it is put in vacuum device.
4. Drying rate is very quick. As material film coated on the wall of roller is very thin. Normally thickness is 0.3-1.5 mm, plus heat and mass transfer direction are identical, the evaporation capacity on the surface of film can keep at 15-70kg.H2O/m2.h.
