Features TIEI liquid-liquid centrifugal extractor or separator
Centrifugal extractor is a new type of liquid-liquid extraction and separation equipment, with fast and efficient advantages, it has essential difference in principle with traditional extraction equipments such as mixer settler, extraction column and so on. Centrifugal extractor adopt motor to drive the drum with high-speed rotation, under the shear force generated by drum or blade rotation condition, two different density and immiscible liquids complete mixing and mass transfer, and separated rapidly under the centrifugal force action which generated by high-speed rotation of drum.
Mixing and mass transfer process
Light and heavy phases of solution enter in the internal mixing zone of shell from two feed inlets separately in a certain ratio, mixed and separated rapidly, to complete mixing and mass transfer process.
Separation process
Under the action of the feeder or turbine disc, the mixed liquor enter in drum, in the cavity formed by web, it soon rotated with drum synchronously, under the condition of centrifugal force, during the upward flow process, the heavier liquid flow away from the drum center and towards to the drum wall, while the lighter liquid flow away from the drum wall and towards to the drum center, clarified liquids enter in collecting chamber through their respective weirs and discharged from light and heavy phase outlets, to complete separation process.

Liquid/liquid separations and extractions are complex processes and several parameters determine ethe type of equipment to be used. Centrifugal contactors are on of the technologies employed for liquid/liquid separation and liquid/liquid extraction processes. Every liquid/liquid system has its own specific characteristics and in order to successfully predict behavior, testing must be performed with small scale equipment to predict industrial performance. Parameters such as surface tension, viscosity, temperature, mutual solubility, selectivity, and liquid densities are a few of the factors which influence the performance of a liquid/liquid centrifuge.
Process intensitication studies can be performed using laboratory scale centrifugal contactors to evaluate these parameters. One of the goals of process intensification is to make large changes in operating conditions on a laboratory scale. By imparting large changes on a small scale, the robustness of equipment can be deterined. If the centrifugal contactor can tolerate the large change on a small scale, confidence in scale-up to large scale equipment is increased. The different mixing configurations of centrifugal contactors influence equipment performance, and the characteristics of a liquid/liquid system determine the details of equipment design.
Pilot scale tesing is performed with larger equipment to perform more thorough and specific testing. At this point, the process is "fine-tuned" by evaluating conditions such as the phase flow rate ratio, the maximum throughputs that can e attained, and range of acceptable rotational speeds, for example, to accurately predict industrial throughputs and maximize product recovery.
