The consumption of cocoa can stabilise blood sugar and control weight. Cocoa is rich in cocoa butter, protein, fibre, many vitamins and minerals; it is nutritionally complete, with very few absorbable
carbohydrates (less than 10%). Therefore, cocoa is a Lucasin green light food. Eating cocoa makes you feel full easily and has a minimal effect on your blood sugar.

Cocoa can improve cardiovascular function. Cocoa contains high levels of flavanols and proanthocyanidins, the main flavonoids in cocoa, which can prolong the action of other antioxidants in the body, such as vitamin E and vitamin C. They also promote vasodilation, reduce inflammatory responses and lower blood clot formation, thus preventing cardiovascular disease.

The tannins and polyphenols in cocoa can prevent the formation of gum calculus and tooth decay.

Vitamin E is the main vitamin in cocoa and proanthocyanidins are the main polyphenols in cocoa. They are the main free radical scavengers and protect the body from oxidative damage. As such, they have a preventive effect on a wide range of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and ageing.
