Working theory
Varicose veins are abnormally large veins often seen in the legs. Normally, blood travels from the heart to the legs by arteries and back to the heart through veins. Veins have one-way valves that allow blood to return from the legs against gravity. If the valves leak, blood pools in the veins, and they can become enlarged or varicose.

Laser vein ablation, also known as endovenous laser therapy (EVLA), is a type of treatment for saphenous vein reflux, the underlying cause of most varicose veins. At La Jolla Vein Care, we offer ALL treatment modalities for varicose veins, not just one. Treatment is customized based on a person’s individual pattern of venous reflux (determined by ultrasound examination), personal preference, and personal health history. The laser vein ablation procedure may be offered for backwards flow (or “reflux”) in your saphenous vein(s). The great and small saphenous veins are the two main superficial veins that run along the inner thigh/ calf and the back of the legs, respectively.
Some people have anatomic variations where the small saphenous vein in the back of the calf extends to the thigh. Many people also have reflux in their anterior or posterior saphenous veins. Endovenous Laser Ablation Therapy (EVLT) is a procedure that closes varicose veins, restoring proper circulation and causing the twisted, bulging veins to disappear over the course of a few weeks.

Endovenous Laser Ablation Therapy (EVLT) is a procedure that closes varicose veins, restoring proper circulation and causing the twisted, bulging veins to disappear over the course of a few weeks.
STEP 1: A diode laser fibre is passed into the abnormal vein, through a tiny key hole incision.
STEP 2: The laser fibre is then passed up the entire vein and is secured next to the leaky valve.
STEP 3: Intense heat is emitted from the tip of the laser fibre, which is gradually withdrawn from the vein.
STEP 4: As the laser fibre is gradually pulled out of the vein, it heats the blood within the vein, sealing it shut.
Optimal degree of water absorption in the tissue, emits energy at the wavelength of 1470 nm. The wavelength has a high degree of water absorption in the tissue, and 980 nm provides high absorption in hemoglobin. The bio-physical property of the wave used in the 980+1470 laser means that the ablation zone is shallow and controlled, and therefore there is no risk of damage to adjacent tissues. Additionally, it has a very good effect on blood (no risk of bleeding). These features make the 980+1470 laser a safer. Software which makes the work easier The 980+1470 laser is controlled from very high definition touch screen. Additionally, the device has several convenient modes for EVLT procedure. The laser software allows the energy emission in continuous wave(CW)mode, Pulse Mode and Single mode.
