What is the Drilling Rig Mud Pumps?
Drilling rig mud pumps are one of the fundamental pieces of machinery needed for a successful drilling operation.
A mud pump (sometimes referred to as a mud drilling pump or drilling mud pump), is a reciprocating piston/plunger pump designed to circulate drilling fluid (mud) under high pressure (up to 7,500 psi (52,000 kPa)) down the drill string and back up the annulus. A mud pump is an important part of the equipment used for oil well drilling.Classification:
1.--Mud pumps are classified by their number of pistons. Two pistons make it a duplex, three pistons make it a triplex.
2.-- Mud pumps come in a variety of sizes and configurations but for the typical petroleum drilling rig, the triplex (three piston/plunger) mud pump is the pump of choice. Duplex mud pumps (two piston/plungers) have generally been replaced by the triplex pump.
Drive Mode:
Mud pump packages are driven either by a Diesel Engine or Electric Motor.
Depending on fuel and energy available on or near a drilling rig, electric motors or diesel engines are common. In some cases, natural gas or other fuel types may be used. Drilling mud pumps are packaged on skid-type units which allow for easy removal and transportation from site to site.
