The charm of kompeito
The small, colorful kompeito is made from a very simple ingredient: sugar. The craftsman's hands and sensibility create a small spherical shape with uneven (angular) protrusions on the surface.

Kompeito has cute, glittering horns. Here is a little secret of how kompeito horns are made.
Kompeito is made by putting powdered sugar into a large kiln and rolling the sugar while skillfully turning the kiln.
As the kiln is rolled, molasses is sprayed onto the surface of the kiln, and the molasses touches the surface of the kiln. As the molasses touches the surface of the kiln, it begins to harden and gradually forms the uneven corners. In fact, no two of these horns are the same!
The unevenness of the corners is proof that Iroha-ya's kompeito is handmade.
