 Carbopol, also known as CarbCarbopol, also known as Carbomer or Carboxypoly-methylene, is the generic name for acrylic acid synthetic high molecular weight polymers used as thickeners, dispersants, suspending agents and emulsifiers in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. They may be homopolymers of acrylic acid which are crosslinked with allyl ether pentaerythritol, allyl ether of sucrose or allyl ether of propylene. Carbomer was found in the market as a white and fluffy powder. They have the ability to absorb, retain moisture and expand to many times the original volume. The carbomer codes (910, 934, 940, 941 980 ,and 934P) are indicative of molecular weight and specific components of the polymer.
