Answer: Yes, You don't need to take this off, unless you wanna have a nice clean your spout or whale cover. if you look at the bottom of the whale cover, it's open, will not block water flow when you pull up your knob.

Question: My spout is 5 inches. Will this work on it or is the whale too long? Thanks.

Answer: Hi, The whale it self has 7 inches long, but thats outside length, inside should be much less, and in case if whale is too long, you dont have to put the whale in the end of the spout, It should work for 5 inches. .. In worse scenario if it doesn't, you just pack it back and ask for refund, you should get the full refund..
