Introduction:
In the food production industry, metal is one of the most commonly found contaminant materials in food. Metal can be introduced at all stages of processing of food, as it is most commonly used in the construction of machinery, handling equipment and ancillary utensils. A metal detector for the food industry can help ensure the safety and integrity of a wide range of unpackaged, packaged or bulk goods, by identifying metal contaminants during processing or packaging and helping to ensure that they do not enter food that we eat. Types of Contaminants:
There are three main groups of metallic contaminants that a food metal detector can sense:
Ferrous
Non Ferrous
Stainless Steel detection depends on the magnetic or conductive properties of the contaminant
The ability for a conventional metal detector used in the food industry to detect metallic contaminants depends upon their conductivity and magnetic permeability:
Ferrous metal contaminants are both magnetic and conductive and are easily detected.
Although they are not magnetic, Non-Ferrous contaminants are good conductors and can be detected relatively easily.
Stainless Steel foreign bodies are the most difficult to pick-up as they are usually non-magnetic and a poor electrical conductor. The ability to detect stainless steel is also hindered when the product is wet or has a high salt content.
If there are other types of contaminants (glass, calcified bone, ceramics, stone) to be detected, then an X-ray inspection system for food will offer enhanced detection capabilities.

Reject system:
1.Stop on Detect Reject(less 50KG) - The conveyor system stops if metal is detected and an alarm sounds, enabling the operator to remove the contaminated product.
2.Pusher Reject(less 10KG) - Pneumatically powered pushers divert contaminated product out of the production flow/ belt, as shown below 1st picture.
3.Flap reject or Drop down Reject - This reject mechanism are typically used to remove contaminated and/or out of spec dry bulk products. Product passes through a chute which in the open position allows good product to continue through. The end flap or lift flap is triggered to divert contaminated or out of spec product out of the good product flow, as shown below 2nd and 3rdpicture.
4.Air jet type: NG products are blown sideways off of the line by a powerful air jet. It is ideal for small, lightweight packaged products at high speed as shown below 4th picture.

1. What is function of the metal detector for you?
The use of metal detector usually has two reasons.
(1) Protects your precious equipment or the essential equipment.
(2) Guarantees your product to be perfect.

2. Where should l install the metal detector?
If the purpose is for protect ion device, then should install the metal detector in the distance by the protection device entrance as far as possible near place.
If it ‘s to detect the final product, then the detector should be installed as far as possible in the end of the production assembly line .
If the packing material itself includes the metal element, it’s unable to obtain the very good examination sensitivity, so you should install the metal detector in front of the packaging machine and check the products before packing.
3. What is the products effect?
All products, when they go through electromagnetic field of the detect region, it will occur some kind of signal. This kind of signal is similar to the metal signal. This kind of signal is called the production effect.
The factor which influence production effect includes: Moisture content, fat content, temperature, acidity, salinity, direction and volume. Usually, the product which effect small can obtain the higher examination sensitivity. The suppression function of the metal detector in view of the production effect also can enhance the metal examination sensitivity.
4. What is sensitivity?
The metal detector sensitivity defines as how small of the metal ball which is able to detected In the center of detector head, the sensitivity is also divided into "the greatest sensitivity" and " examination with product sensitivity ". The greatest sensitivity refers to the metal detector under theory condition highest sensitivity. The examination with product sensitivity is the metal highest sensitivity that detects in the practical application. Usually, the examination with product sensitivity has more practical significance.
5.Which factors will affect the sensitivity?
The metal detector sensitivity is decided by many factors. For example: The material effect, the shape of metal impurities, the size and the direction, the size of detector, as well as operation environment, the purity of the packing material and so on.
6. What is the ideal size of metal detector head?
The size of the head is based on the dimensions of the package. Always simulate production conditions as closely as possible, including speed, temperature, and orientation of the product.
