Brief Information

Hongze Stainless steel wire rope supplies various structures of stainless wire rope,but most popular construction is 1*19,7*7 and 7*19.The more wires per strand the more flexible the wire will be.

The 1*19 strand is our most rigid and a very popular stainless steel construction.Its lack of flexibility means it has an excellent breaking load and low stretch characteristics.This together with its aesthetic appeal,makes it a favourite for marine,structural and architectural,decorative and balustrade applications.

7*7 wire rope is more flexible than 1*19 but more rigid than 7*19.It is often used where 1*19 lacks enough flexibility for an application or where7*19's waker breaking load is too low for an application.

 Wire Rope Cores

Wire Ropes are made with either fibre or steel wire cores.The core provides support and maintains the positiion of the outer stands during operation.The core provides an elastic bed to enable movement or relative displacement and allows deformation of the wire strands when the rope is flexed round a sheave.If the core is not the right size or is of inferior material the rope will not function properly and its life shorteded.

There are two main types of rope core---Fibre(FC) and steel (IWRC or WSC)

Fiber Core(FC)

This core is made of either natural fibres or polyroplylene and provides excellent elasticity.In addtion,the fibre core is impregnated with lubricant during manufacture.It is thereby lubricated internally thus reducing internal corrosion and wear between wires.

Independent Wire Rope Core(IWRC)

This core is usually composed of a sepate7*7 wire rope around which wire strands are laid.The steel core increases the strength by7%and the weight by10%.These steel cores provide more substantial support than fibre cores to the outer strands during the rope's operating life thus ensuring even stress distribution and retention of the rope shape.Steel centres resist crushing,distortion and are more resistant to heat and increase the strength of  the rope.

Wire Strand Core(WSC)

WSC has the same benefits as IWRC,providing good support for the outer strands around which wire strands are laid.It is generally used in wire ropes below 13mm diameter.

What is the difference between PVC and nylon-coated wire rope?

PVC or Nylon Coated Wire Ropes may be stainless or galvanised. The thickness of the coating depends on its final use with guard rail wires needing a thick very durable coating whereas flying wires can have a thin coating. The coating must be stripped back before applying terminations.

PVC is a low cost, general purpose coating which is very flexible and easy to strip. Typical applications include, guardrails, catenary systems, washing lines, security cables, lock cable systems, barrier ropes, security cables and display purposes. Our general purpose grade PVC coated galvanised wire ropes can be used for all non-aerospace applications. 

Nylon is harder wearing but less flexible and considerably more expensive than PVC. It is ideal for working cables for example gym cables, roller shutter blinds and cannery cables. Nylon coating is less easy to strip. Unlike PVC-coated cable, nylon coating is suitable for working over sheaves.

Wire Rope Strand Types

Compacted Wire Rope is manufactured from strands which have been reduced in diameter by swaging. The outer wires of the strand are flattened and the internal wires are no longer round. Compared to standard round strand of the same diameter, a compacted wire rope is flatter, has a greater cross-sectional metallic area, making it stronger and more abrasion resistant.
