IPE description and surface treatment:

It is necessary to prevent contact with iron objects — black stains formation!

It is generally considered strong and very hard. The grain is straight but also embedded in spirals which might sometimes lead to more difficult workability — particularly due to irregular texture varying from fine to medium. Due to the high degree of hardness, density and high content of substances in wood, its service life is long. These substances contained in the wood might slow down the drying process and prevent sufficient adhesion of paint. Therefore, it is highly advisable to let the IPE wood weather for at least 2 – 3 months before applying a first surface treatment. After this period of time, it is advisable (in order to maintain the original colour of the wood) to treat the wood. We recommend the application of 2 layers of one of the OSMO COLOR oils — special oils for wood with a pigment basis. Thus, the wood can be visually enhanced for a long period of time.
