LPG description
LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) is a mixture of propane and butane, usually accompanied by a small amount of propylene and butene. A strong odor of ethyl mercaptan was added to the liquefied petroleum gas so that leakage of LPG could be easily detected. Liquefied petroleum gas is produced during crude oil extraction or extraction from petroleum or natural gas. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is often mistaken for propane. In fact, LPG is a mixture of petroleum and natural gas under appropriate pressure, and exists as a liquid at room temperature. In the United States and Canada, a mixture of these two substances is generally considered to consist primarily of propane, while in many European countries, the propane content in liquefied petroleum gas is only 50% or less.
LPG is gaseous at normal temperature, can be liquefied under pressure or low temperature, and is non-toxic, but at higher concentrations, it can paralyze the central nervous system of the human body, resulting in asphyxiation and death.
The octane number of liquefied petroleum gas is about 110, and that of gasoline is about 90-95, which is higher than that of gasoline by 5% -10%. Therefore, LPG has higher knock resistance than gasoline.
