Hammer Unions are designed to enjoin mud tanks instantly without having to deal with the flange connections at all. If the mud tanks are not aligned in the right kind of way necessary hammer unions can still be used in order to make absolutely non-leak seals that are tightened. They generally have three parts, a male, a female, and a nut.

The male part is an external threaded portion that is welded on the end of a pipe already connected to a tank wall.

The pipe continues further through the nuts towards the O-ring in order to enter into the female part.

They are then hammered and tightened together.

Hammer adjustments are the most necessary parts. Unions have a locked up O-ring that is squeezed together into the "D" square cross section area thereby sealing the fluid pressures up to 150 psi in opposition to the external diameter of the connecting pipe in the hammer unions.

Materials:

Unions are all steel constructed including precisely manufactured ball-cone (male-to-female) seats. High pressure unions are made from forged alloy steel. Parts are fully interchangeable with most other major brands.

Q&A with a Distributor

We recently sat down with a distributor which specializes in smaller size valves and pressure products (up to 4") mainly for O&G customers. Below is the transcript of the session;

Speaker 2: Hammer unions we offer in a figure 100, figure 200, figure 206, figure 300, figure 400, figure 602, figure 1002, 1502. The higher pressures the 1502's, the 1002's will offer some butt weld to hammer unions. Essentially what this is for it goes on hose makeups, midwest hose service companies. So essentially if you want to take a 100 foot of hose cut it into four slots of 25 pieces or 25-foot hose, this would be your connection between the 25-foot hose on this side, 25-foot hose on this side. So you can actually manhandle it and handle the hose a lot better out in the field. So basically, essentially that's what a hammer union is. It's for lines, hoses, just a connection point between two hoses.

Speaker 3: What does the figure 100, 200, 300 mean?

Speaker 2: Pressure rating, like a figure 200 is going to be 2000 pounds, figure 100 is going to be a thousand pound and so on.

Speaker 3: Now what is the material of these hammer units?

Speaker 2: Depending on the rating you will get into a forged steel or a cast steel, depending on the pressure.

Speaker 3: They come with MTR's?

Speaker 1: We do offer some butt welds as well on the 1502's. So we do that as well, and then I'm going to throw this other item out here that we do offer a hammer union that is a stainless steel 316 flat faced union with a carbon steel hex nut and it does have a Viton seal in there.

Speaker 3: Are they pressure tested?

Speaker 1: At our facility yes.

Speaker 3: Each one of them is pressure tested?

Speaker 1: Yes and we have direct relationships with the hammer unions as far as on the manufacturing process with these as well. So were very thorough with the hammer unions.

Speaker 3: And the reason I ask is because these are usually used in a high-pressure environment, these are exposed out there.

3) What's the order procedure?

A: First we discuss order details, production details by email or TM. Then we issue you an PI for your confirmation. You will be requested to do pr -epaid full payment or deposit before we go into production. After we get the deposit, we start to process the order. We usually need 15-25days if we don't have the items in stock. Before production has been finished, we will contact you for shipment details, and the balance payment. After payment has been settled, we start to prepare the shipment for you.

4)How do you take care when your clients received defective products?

A: replacement. If there are some defective items, we usually credit to our customer or replace in next shipment.

5)How do you check all the goods in the production line?

A: We have spot inspection and finished product inspection. We check the goods when they go into next step production procedure.
