Polyhedral dice are commonly used in role-playing games. The fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is largely credited with popularizing dice in such games. Aside from the six-sided cube, the other popular dies have 4, 8, 12, and 20 faces, allowing for those number ranges to be generated.
