Sintered Ferrite Magnets (Ceramic magnet) developed in the 1960's as a low cost alternative to metallic
magnets. Although they have low energy (compared with other permanent magnet materials) and are relatively brittle and hard, Ceramic Magnets (Hard ferrite magnets) have won wide acceptance due to their good resistance to demagnetization, excellent corrosion resistance and low price per pound. In fact, measured by weight, ferrite represents more than 75 percent of the world magnet consumption. It is the first choice for most types of DC motors, magnetic separators, magnetic resonance imaging and automotive sensors.

Ferrite magnets are corrosion free – for long term performance they are superb; if looked after they are capable of exceeding most products lifecycles.
Ferrite magnets can be used up to +250 degrees C (and in some cases up to +300 degC). Ferrite magnets are also low cost, particularly in high volume production runs.
Ferrite / Ceramic Magnets resist chemical attacks from many of the alkaline solutions, dilute acids, organic solvents, and some hydroxides. They are fine for use in salt water conditions (no corrosion issues at all). It can be etched with acids (e.g. hydrochloric acid). |
